Science Europe welcomes adoption of ERA Roadmap
Science Europe, the association of major European research funding and research performing organisations from 27 countries, has congratulated the European Research and Innovation Area Committee (ERAC) on the occasion of the adoption of the "ERA Roadmap 2015-2020" by the Competitiveness Council on 29 May 2015.
Science Europe stresses the leading role EU Member States and Associated Countries are taking in ERA implementation with the ERA Roadmap, and affirms the diversity of national research and innovation systems. The association also welcomes the fact that ERAC has chosen an approach of identifying a limited set of areas to focus attention and set objectives, saying that Science Europe had chosen a similar approach in its strategic plan, the Science Europe Roadmap, of 2013.
Commenting on the individual priorities of the ERA Roadmap, Science Europe pointed out, amongst other things, that for instance, Science Europe members collectively have extensive experience with the implementation of Joint Programming (Priority 2A). Science Europe will be releasing a Position Statement on Joint Programming in June 2015, to start a dialogue on the future of JPIs. With regard to Research Infrastructures (Priority 2B), Science Europea calls for "improving the compatibility between ESFRI-related goals and the needs to serve national and regional infrastructural needs".
