CoR: Urban areas can be test-beds for innovation in EU policies
The Committee of the Regions (CoR) sees metropolitan areas as making a significant contribution to achieving the economic, social and territorial development in the EU. Speaking at an OECD Conference in Paris on 27 April 2015, CoR President Markku Markkula said that "metropolitan areas serve as platforms for innovative partnerships. They are ideal test-beds for experimentation and innovation in European policies".
Mr. Markkula also repeated the CoRs' call for an integrated EU Urban Agenda. The CoR is cooperating with the current Latvian and the upcoming Luxembourg and Dutch EU Presidencies, as well as the European Commission and European Parliament, on a roadmap towards an EU Urban Agenda.
