EC President Juncker discusses EFSI with Austrian Vice-Chancellor Mitterlehner
On Tuesday, 21 April 2015, European Commission President Juncker and Austrian Vice-Chancellor and Minister for Science, Research and Economy Reinhold Mitterlehner met in Vienna for a bilateral talk to discuss the proposed European Fund for Strategic Investment (EFSI), amongst other issues.
Both President Juncker and Minister Mitterlehner agreed that the EFSI would need a clear contact point. Mr. Juncker explained that projects to receive financing would not be selected by the European Commission, but by the European Investment Bank (EIB) on the basis of the EIB's know-how. He added that the EFSI was not about already existing projects, but about creating added value through new projects. Minister Mitterlehner announced that Austria would submit additional projects as soon as more details about the programme were available.
