Secretary-General of Council Secretariat will leave in summer

Mr. Uwe Corsepius, the current Secretary General of the Council of the European Union, announced on 13 March 2015 that he will return to Germany after his mandate expires in summer 2015.

Mr. Corsepius took office on 26 June 2011, after having been formally appointed by the Council in accordance with article 240(2) of the Treaty. His mandate will expire on 30 June 2015. He said: "The German Chancellor has asked me to return to Berlin, so I will leave Brussels after my mandate expires. Working with the General Secretariat of the Council and the member states over the last few years, at the heart of the EU institutions, has been a great privilege for me".

The Secretary General is the head of the General Secretariat of the Council (GSC). His main roles are to assist the Council and to manage the GSC.
