Council Competitiveness discusses Annual Growth Survey, EFSI and Big Data
On 3 March 2015, the Research part of the Council Competitiveness took place in Brussels. First, Research ministers discussed the Annual Growth Survey 2015 and the Investment Plan for Europe (EFSI). In their statements, Commissioner Moedas and most of the Member States stressed the importance of structural reforms for enhancing the quality and efficiency of investments in research and innovation. Several Member States pointed out that synergies between the different funds at EU level are crucial.
The second orientation debate focused on the Commission Communication “Towards a thriving data driven economy”. Research ministers were asked to indicate main priorities and framework conditions in the context of open, networked and data intensive research.
The Latvian Presidency and the Commission also informed the Council about the midterm review of “BONUS” (the Joint Baltic Sea Research Programme), the main results of the public consultation on “Science 2.0” and on recent discussions about the ERA governance structure.
