Commission presents Energy Union package
On 25 February the European Commission presented its top priority project “Energy Union” which sets out a policy framework for energy and climate for 2030. Its goal is to achieve secure, sustainable, competitive, affordable energy for Europe by integrating a forward-looking climate change policy. Given its cross-cutting nature, research and innovation will contribute to all dimensions of the Energy Union. A vital contribution to the objectives will come from the Energy theme of Horizon 2020. Key topics will be the next generation of renewable technologies, storage solutions, smart grids and smart home technology, clean transport, as well as clean fossil fuel and safe nuclear energy.
