R&I to be one cornerstone of Energy Union
At a conference in Riga on 6 February 2015, the Commissioner for Energy and the Climate, Miguel Arias Canete, presented the key elements of the Energy Union package. Energy Union is one of the key political priorities of the Juncker Commission. The package addresses five dimensions: Energy security, the single market for energy, moderating the demand for energy and energy efficiency, the decarbonisation of the economy, and research and innovation.
As regards research and innovation, the Commission will focus on the revision of the Strategic Energy Technology Plan (SET Plan) by limiting the number of its essential priorities and clarifying its objective, promoting research into energy storage, and promoting access to venture capital for renewables (particularly photovoltaics) by using the European investment plan.TOP
