New grants awarded under Horizon 2020 SME Instrument
According to the latest call results, a total of € 117 million in new grants have been awarded to 275 innovative SMEs from Horizon 2020 under the new SME Instrument. The instrument is endowed with a budget of €3 billion and is designed to to help innovative small firms get ideas from the lab to the market and help generate growth and jobs for Europe. The total amount from the SME Instrument awarded to innovative companies so far is €125 million.
By the first cut-off date of the SME Instrument programme Phase 2, which funds innovation activities and the development of business plans, the Commission had received 580 project proposals involving 785 SMEs. 132 proposals were eligible, and 78 (59%) of these were selected for funding.
Another 178 projects involving 199 SMEs were selected for funding from SME Instrument programme Phase 1, which is designed to finance feasibility studies. By the second cut-off date for Phase 1, the Commission had received a total of 1,944 proposals, out of which 237 were above threshold.
