Innovation Investment Package adopted by European Parliament
On 15 April 2014, the European Parliament adopted a package of public-private and public-public research partnerships. As a final step in the political decision-making process, the Council will be asked to finally approve this € 22 billion Innovation Investment Package. Most of the investment will go to six public-private partnerships in innovative medicines (IMI 2), aeronautics (Clean Sky 2), bio-based industries (BBI), fuel cells and hydrogen (FCH 2), electronics (ECSEL) and rail transport (Shift2Rail). The launch of these partnerships is planned for July 2014. Over the next seven years, the EU's contribution to the package will be € 9 billion from Horizon 2020. The private sector is expected to invest an equivalent amount, and Member States will contribute up to €4 billion.
