EIGE Gender Equality Index Report

CREATED ON 31 Jul 2013

The European Institute for Gender Equality (EIGE) is an autonomous body of the European Union. Its aim is to promote gender equality and gender mainstreaming in all EU policies, as well as to raise awareness among EU citizens concerning gender equality. Based on the EU policy framework, the Gender Equality Index gives a comprehensive overview of gender gaps across EU Member States. This report scores each Member State and the EU average in different domains such as work, money, knowledge, time, power, health, intersecting inequalities and violence. The results show that gender equality correlates with social rather than traditional economic indicators. Throughout the EU Member States the average gender gap is 54, which means that the EU has come halfway towards a gender-equal society.
