STOA publishes annual report for 2024

The European Parliament (EP) Panel for the Future of Science and Technology (STOA) has published its Annual Report of 2024. Next to an overview of its activities, it contains a foreword by MEP Victor Negrescu, Vice-President of the European Parliament responsible for STOA, and a preface by STOA Chair and MEP Christian Ehler.
In 2024, STOA continued its role in supporting evidence-informed policymaking. Through studies, workshops, and conferences, STOA explored the relationship between science and technology, rights and democracy, covering topics from textiles, alternative proteins, and mental privacy to industrial pollutants and fishing technologies.
STOA also continued its work on academic freedom, in the context of the European Parliament Forum on Academic Freedom launched in 2022. In total, STOA published 13 studies and 1 briefing in 2024, related to its 3 thematic priorities: artificial intelligence and other disruptive technologies, European Green Deal; and quality of life. The EP stresses that they were written as impartial and accessible assessments on current trends, risks, and opportunities in science and technology.
