RTOs International Network calls for international cooperation to fight Covid-19 pandemic
The RTOs International Network (RIN), consisting of sixteen leading Research & Technology Organisations (RTOs) globally, has issued a joint statement emphasising the importance of strengthening international cooperation on research, development and innovation (RD&I) in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. The statement is also supported by EARTO, the European Association of Research and Technology Organisations.
The statement points out that the current situation worldwide has shown the significant role of RD&I and the particular importance of RTOs to combat this new health crisis and alleviate its socio-economic impact. RTOs have put in place initiatives and programmes to support collaborative research and share best practices. RIN claims that international collaboration amplifies the RTOs’ efforts to support their respective economies and societies through and out of this crisis. The paper states that while the global technological race accelerates, the world needs to explore and develop new ways of international collaboration, improving the conditions of conducting RD&I and ensuring the right balance between countries’ autonomy and the necessity of continuing and accelerating joint efforts to co-create knowledge and technology.
