Maria Leptin re-appointed as ERC President
The European Commission has announced the re-appointment of Professor Maria Leptin as President of the European Research Council (ERC) for an additional two-year term. Professor Leptin, who has already served almost four years in this prestigious role, will begin her new mandate on 1 October 2025, continuing until the end of September 2027.
The current three ERC Vice-Presidents commented that this reappointment is excellent news and ensures continuity at a critical moment ahead of the next EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation. On behalf of the ERC Scientific Council, their governing body, they expressed their thanks to Maria Leptin for her leadership and strong commitment over the past four years, which, they said, has taken the organisation to new heights. They added that she has their full trust to continue the ERC mission for science and for Europe.
