Input to SRIA for Green Hydrogen ERA pilot initiative invited by public consultation
A pan-European public consultation under the agenda process on Green Hydrogen is calling on all interested parties to contribute their ideas in preparation of a joint Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (SRIA).
Green Hydrogen plays a key role in achieving the Paris climate targets and in accelerating Europe’s transition towards a sustainable and innovative economy based on clean energy solutions. There is great demand for more research and innovation in hydrogen solutions to accomplish these goals, however. The agenda process on Green Hydrogen was launched in 2021 as a pilot initiative of the new European Research Area (ERA) in order to define research priorities and joint implementation activities in a transparent and inclusive participatory process. Driven by many Member States of the European Union, third countries and in close coordination with the European Commission, the agenda process brings together science, industry, civil society and the public administration to form an inter- and transdisciplinary European Green Hydrogen community. Strengthening the ERA with this initiative is one of the common goals of the current trio presidency of Germany, Portugal and Slovenia.
As a starting point, three seed papers have been prepared by leading hydrogen experts in expert groups, covering the thematic areas production, transport/infrastructure and market stimulation. The papers include an initial list of research questions for an accelerated transformation towards Green Hydrogen in Europe.
Stakeholders are invited to provide ideas and comments to the seed papers. The public consultation is open until 26 September 2021, 23:59 CEST. It takes about 30 minutes to complete the survey for a single seed paper.
