Group of Chief Scientific Advisors present summary of activities

On 5 February 2020, the European Commission published a report which summarises the activities of the Group of Chief Scientific Advisors in the period of 2015-2019. The report presents an overview of the scientific advice during this period, and its impact on Commission policy making and beyond. The group delivered seven scientific opinions, two statements and two explanatory notes.

In her foreword, Commissioner Mariya Gabriel states that the Advisors have informed the thinking of the Commission on some very challenging issues. "Their experience has informed similar structures in Europe and beyond, and more broadly still, the advisors have been important in pushing back against anti-expert, anti-science, populist discourse by providing sensible, evidence-based and independent advice", Gabriel concludes.
