Greece advocates for a forward-thinking and well-structured FP10

Greece has presented its vision for the upcoming EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation (FP10), emphasising the need for an ambitious, well-funded, and strategically structured programme to strengthen Europe’s scientific leadership, global competitiveness, and strategic autonomy.

The Greek position paper highlights key principles, including a firm commitment to excellence, simplified funding mechanisms, and a balanced focus on both fundamental and applied research, particularly in breakthrough technologies. Greece stresses the importance of ring-fencing FP10 funds exclusively for research and innovation through open, competitive calls.

To maximise impact, Greece calls for increased and stable funding, stronger synergies with EU mechanisms like Cohesion Policy Funds, and better support for initiatives such as the European Research Council (ERC) and Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA). The paper advocates for widening participation to reduce disparities between Member States and improving proposal success rates by limiting calls and increasing funding per project.

Greece also urges strengthening strategic global partnerships while safeguarding Europe’s interests, expanding support for dual-use research, and enhancing infrastructure sustainability and accessibility.

By ensuring excellence, inclusivity, and efficiency, Greece envisions FP10 as a means to secure Europe’s innovation leadership and address vital challenges like resilience, public security, and international competitiveness.
