Global Risks Report 2025 reveals increasingly fractured global landscape

The World Economic Forum has published the 20th edition of its 'Global Risks Report', ahead of the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting due to take place from 20-24 January 2025 in Davos, Switzerland. The report reveals an increasingly fractured global landscape, where escalating geopolitical, environmental, societal and technological challenges threaten stability and progress. This edition presents the findings of the Global Risks Perception Survey 2024-2025 (GRPS), which captures insights from over 900 experts worldwide. The report analyses global risks through three timeframes to support decision-makers in balancing current crises and longer-term priorities.
The report includes a depiction of the global risk landscape (p. 7). The risk believed to be "most likely to present a material crisis on a global scale in 2025" is state-based armed conflict, followed by extreme weather events, geoeconomic confrontation, misinformation and disinformation, and societal polarisation.
The report also includes an appendix including the findings of an executive opinion survey on national risk perceptions (“Which five risks are the most likely to pose the biggest threat to your country in the next two years?”, p 81 ff)). The top five risks identified for Austria are: labour and/or talent shortage; economic downturn (e.g. recession, stagnation); societal polarisation; cyber insecurity; and extreme weather events (floods, heatwaves etc).
