European Parliament adopts resolution on biotechnology
In its plenary session on 10 July 2025, the European Parliament adopted a resolution aiming at streamlining the regulation of the biotechnology and biomanufacturing sectors in the EU. MEPs stressed their strategic importance for competitiveness and sustainability and called for increased investment to foster innovation and growth in these areas. With a view to a future EU BiotechAct, they urge the European Commission to ensure the coherence of all legislative measures affecting these sectors in order to facilitate the effective scaling-up and commercialisation of research and development results. In addition, MEPs advocated responsible access to synthetic biology tools and genetic engineering technologies.
