European Court of Auditors reviews financial contributions from non-EU countries to EU
On 27 April 2021, the European Court of Auditors published a review examining the financial contributions from non-EU countries to the EU and its Member States.
Contributions to the EU allow non-EU countries to participate in EU programmes and activities. They are split among nearly 30 programmes. The report provides an overview of third-country contributions to EU activities for the period of 2014-2019. The contributions to Erasmus+ and Horizon 2020 make up a considerable part of the overall amount of contributions. The review highlights some general key challenges, one of which concerns the withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the EU and its impact on the contributions paid by non-EU countries.
