European Commission opens public consultation on high-risk AI systems

The European Commission has launched a public consultation to seek feedback on the implementation of the AI Act’s regulations for high-risk Artificial Intelligence systems. This initiative aims to gather practical experiences, clarify outstanding questions, and support the development of upcoming Commission guidelines focused on classifying high-risk AI systems and the obligations associated with them.
High-risk AI systems under the AI Act include those that play a significant role in ensuring product safety under EU legislation and those that could substantially impact individuals’ health, safety, or fundamental rights in specific situations outlined by the Act.
The consultation will also address roles and responsibilities along the entire AI value chain, including defining accountability for all parties involved, from developers and providers to end-users.
A wide array of stakeholders is encouraged to participate, including AI developers, providers, businesses, public sector organisations, academics, research bodies, civil society, regulatory authorities, and the general public. The feedback collected will inform the further development and clarification of requirements for high-risk AI systems.
The deadline for feedback is 18 July 2025.
