European Biodiversity Partnership launches call on ecosystem restoration
The European Biodioversity Partnership Biodiversa+ launched a new research call on ecosystem restoration on 9 September 2025. The BiodivConnect call supports innovative research on the restoration of ecosystem functioning, integrity and connectivity. The funded research projects will produce actionable knowledge to support nature restoration and reverse biodiversity decline and ecosystem degradation.
This call will benefit the implementation of the EU Nature Restoration Law, the EU Biodiversity Strategy for 2030 and the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework. With a total budget of around € 40 million, this call will address restoration efforts for biodiversity in all types of ecosystems and habitats, in all regions of the world, and will support high-quality research projects with holistic, systemic, and integrated approaches.
The call covers three important topics that represent key challenges in nature restoration
- setting restoration targets and measuring success,
- transferability and scaling of nature restoration efforts,
- resilience and sustainability of restoration efforts,
Successful proposals must demonstrate significant added value at transnational level and are expected to be interdisciplinary and ideally also transdisciplinary, involving non-academic stakeholders to co-produce new knowledge relevant for society.
The complete announcement and call documents, including full eligibility and evaluation criteria, are available on the Biodiversa+ website.
