EUA report analyses opportunities in Europe for researchers at risk
The European University Association (EUA) has published a report by the Initiative to Support, Promote and Integrate Researchers at Risk in Europe (Inspireeurope+) on 'Expanding opportunities in Europe for researchers at risk'.
Academic freedom is in decline globally, and scholars around the world are facing threats to their lives, liberty and research careers. When researchers are at risk, not only are individual lives and careers in jeopardy, but the quality and very future of research is also at stake. Therefore, EUA emphasises, Europe’s engagement is of utmost importance.
The Initiative was launched in 2019 and documents and analyses existing initiatives to support researchers at risk in Europe and helps to establish new ones. The report updates the project's recommendations which were first published in 2022, in order to reflect the changing political contexts and the progress made to enhance the situation of researchers at risk in Europe.
The recommendations address governments and administrations at both national and EU levels, higher education institutions, and research organisations. For each of the recommendations, the annex provides a compendium of resources and Inspireurope+ materials, further details, examples of best practice, and links to relevant policy documents.
