ERC Starting Grants 2020: €677 million awarded to early career scientists
On 3 September 2020, the European Research Council published the results of the ERC Starting Grants 2020 call. The funding, worth € 677 million in total, will help 436 early-career scientists and scholars to build their own teams and conduct pioneering research across all disciplines. 13% of applications were selected for funding in this round.
This call attracted 3,272 applications and the overall success rate is 13.3%. In this call, grants are awarded to researchers of 40 nationalities, hosted in 25 different countries Europe. 20 researchers are moving to Europe from further outside. In terms of host institutions, Germany (88 grants) and the UK (62 grants) are in the lead, followed by the Netherlands (42) and France (38). Austria hosts 11 Starting Grants.
