ERC grantee Philippe Aghion receives Economics Nobel Prize
Philippe Aghion, together with Joel Mokyr & Peter Howitt, has been awarded the 2025 Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel for having explained innovation-driven economic growth.
The ERC has backed the pioneering frontier research of Professor Aghion, who is from Collège de France and INSEAD, Paris, and the London School of Economics and Political Science, with two major individual ERC Advanced Grants since 2018, worth a total of €4.41 million. This brings the number of ERC grantees who have won a Nobel Prize up to fifteen. The topics of Philippe Aghion's ERC projects directly link to the work for which he received the 2025 Economic Sciences Nobel Prize.
Philippe Aghion has previously also taken part in several EU-funded research projects including Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions funding.
