ERAC discusses establishment of Strategic Coordinating Process for Partnerships
ERAC held its second informal videoconference meeting on 10 September 2020. The main issue at the meeting was the issue of establishing the Strategic Coordinating Process for Partnerships (SCP). Jörg Niehoff on the side of the Commission presented a proposal for the way forward. The Member States took a positive stance on this proposal in general, but emphasised the urgency of having a fully functioning SCP. Member States also underlined the importance of a strong partnership between the Member States and the Commission where the Member States are fully committed and play a central role, while the Commission provides assistance and intelligence and facilitiates the process. There is also an agreement that the SCP must be part of the future ERA Governance and that the Partnerships are an important element of ERA.
The ERAC meeting was co-chaired by Jean-Eric Paquet from the European Commission and Christian Naczinsky from Austria. It was the last meeting co-chaired by Christian Naczinsky, as he is stepping down as ERAC Member States co-Chair at the end of his three-year mandate. A new Member States co-Chair of ERAC is expected to be elected at the next ERAC plenary meeting in December.
