Egypt becomes second African country to join Horizon Europe
Egypt has officially joined Horizon Europe, marking a significant step in EU-Egypt cooperation. Egypt is now the second African country associated with Horizon Europe, granting Egyptian researchers, universities, and innovators access to funding and collaboration on equal terms with EU Member States. This move empowers Egyptians to lead projects and advance research reforms in key sectors.
The agreement was signed at the EU–Egypt Summit in Brussels by Commissioner Ekaterina Zaharieva and Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty, witnessed by President von der Leyen and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi.
This milestone builds on years of cooperation, including the PRIMA initiative, and strengthens scientific collaboration in the region. By joining Horizon Europe, Egypt will play a larger role in tackling global challenges such as climate change and digital transformation.
