EC consultations on strategy and cooperation in higher education closing soon
Two consultations by the European Commission targeting higher education institutions are currently open for feedback, closing on 17 November 2021 (midnight Brussels time).
The consultation on the European Strategy for Universities is collecting feedback in preparation of the Strategy that the EC is planning to adopt in the first quarter of 2022. Higher education in Europe must tackle and adapt to changing conditions linked to climate change, technology, demographic change and the COVID-19 pandemic. The EU’s prosperity depends on it maintaining excellent universities, as it needs innovation and a well-skilled workforce. With its upcoming Strategy, the Commission is aiming to support the higher education sector to manage change and play a leading role in achieving the EU’s policy goals.
In a similar vein, the second consultation focuses on "Building bridges for effective European higher education cooperation". Higher education institutions in the EU are adapting to rapid societal change. The European universities initiative supports them by encouraging deeper cooperation between institutions in different countries. The initiative will draw on the higher education community’s experience with the adaptation process. It will facilitate cooperation between all higher education institutions in the EU to help overcome obstacles to a free flow of ideas, creativity and innovation.
