Commission and stakeholders from automotive R&I sign MoU to enhance EU's position in smart mobility
In the context of the third Strategic Dialogue on the Future of the European Automotive Industry, the European Commission and stakeholders from the automotive industry signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on research and innovation in the sector. The MoU unites the 2Zero Partnership (focusing on zero-emission road transport), the CCAM Partnership (Connected, Cooperative, and Automated Mobility), and the BATT4EU Partnership (battery value chain innovation) with their key stakeholders and industry representatives to address the automotive sector's strategic needs. The objectives of the MoU are as follows:
- to enhance coordination between the research and innovation areas covered by both sides,
- to facilitate exchanges on existing projects and initiatives including coordination with relevant EU, national and private R&I investments in the sector
- to leverage the knowledge of the Sides regarding EU national and regional initiatives
- to contribute to the definition of the R&I aspects of an EU vision towards a sustainable global leadership for competitiveness of the EU automotive sector in 2035 and beyond
- to jointly develop a corresponding Joint Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda outlining future ambitious R&I needs and priorities in the European Automotive sector that may be supported in an EU R&I collaborative setting, fostering the competitiveness of the sector and delivering on the ambitions of the Action Plan.
- to prepare an overview of the existing R&I programmes and initiatives at EU, national and regional levels, that are relevant for the automotive sector and that can contribute to the objectives of the SRIA, delivered by June 2026.
