Commission and ESA sign partnership for reaching key political objectives
On 22 January, the European Commission and the European Space Agency signed a Working Arrangement to ensure a more efficient approach to earth-system science and to bring direct benefits to society. The intention of the joint Commission-ESA initiative is to align Horizon Europe with FutureEO, ESA’s research programme, with the objective of reducing inefficiencies and fragmentation in the European research area and amplify the scientific and societal impact of ESA and EU investments.
The new networking partnership addresses global challenges affecting society such as climate change, increasing pressures on critical resources, environmental pollution and its impacts on health and biodiversity, extreme events and natural disasters.
