Commission and EIT launch European Advanced Materials Academy
The European Commission and the European Institute of Innovation & Technology (EIT) have introduced the European Advanced Materials Academy during the EIT Education and Skills Days 2025. The Academy is intended to equip the workforce with skills relevant to advanced materials, innovation, and sustainability, with the aim of enhancing Europe’s position in these fields. The initiative aligns with several EU objectives, such as strengthening competitiveness and innovation, fostering skills development, and attracting talent to the region.
Advanced materials refer to new or improved materials that demonstrate higher performance characteristics and can facilitate technologies that are more environmentally friendly, safer, and more efficient. These materials are applied in areas including clean energy, sustainable transport, digital technologies, and durable construction, thereby contributing to Europe’s green and digital transitions as well as industrial competitiveness. In response to the growing demand for qualified professionals in these sectors, the Academy has set a target to train 200,000 individuals by 2029.
This programme is part of the implementation of the EU’s Advanced Materials for Industrial Leadership strategy, announced in 2024, and is linked to the forthcoming Advanced Materials Act, scheduled for 2026.
