CESEAR advocates for interdisciplinarity to unlock Europe’s deeptech potential

In a position paper released on 31 March 2025, the leading European universities of science and technology (CESAER) call for reinforcement of interdisciplinarity in EIC funding schemes. They underscore the critical role of interdisciplinarity within the European Innovation Council (EIC) to harness Europe’s deeptech potential. The association underlines the need to adopt a strategic focus on interdisciplinarity. This approach could help transform challenges into groundbreaking innovations. CESAER highlights Europe’s capability to create and expand deeptech start-ups, noting the loss of opportunities due to the lack of timely engagement of essential expertise.
To bridge this gap, CESAER proposes a shift towards a problem-driven methodology that integrates new knowledge and technology. This strategy requires problem owners to collaborate effectively with technology specialists, business strategists, and social scientists, fostering an environment where challenges align seamlessly with technological solutions.
