Borys Budka elected as ITRE chair

On 23 July 2024, the constitutive meetings of the European Parliament's standing committees and subcommittees took place in Brussels. During the constitutive meetings, each committee and subcommittee elected its respective bureau, made up of a Chair and Vice-Chairs, for a two-and-a-half-year mandate. Borys Budka (EPP, Poland) was elected as Chair of the Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE) committee. During the tenth legislature, the ITRE committee will have 90 members. The elected vice-chairs are:

1st Vice-Chair: Tsvetelina Penkova (S&D, BG),

2nd Vice-Chair: Elena Donazzan (ECR, IT),

3rd Vice-Chair: Giorgio Gori (S&D, IT),

4th Vice-Chair: Yvan Verougstraete (Renew, BE).

The newly set up committees will start holding their regular meetings this week. On the agenda of the ITRE committee will be, amongst other items, the General budget of the European Union for the financial year 2025 and a presentation by Timo Pesonen, Director-General for Defence Industry and Space, on the proposal establishing a European Defence Industry Programme (EDIP).
