Conclusions of the European Council, 14/15 March 2013


In its March 2013 meeting, the European Council focused on the economic and social situation in the EU and followed up on the framework of the European Semester for the promotion of competitiveness, growth and jobs, as agreed in its Conclusions of December 2012. The emphasis should be on the implementation of decisions taken, especially regarding the Compact for Growth and Jobs. A series of thematic discussions regarding economic growth and European competitiveness were to be held over the coming month by the European Council, prioritising issues such as energy, innovation, the digital agenda and other services, defence as well as industrial competitiveness and policy.
The European Council also took stock of ongoing work on deepening the Economic and Monetary Union (EMU) which was to be further examined at the June 2013 meeting of the European Council.
