Universities and Research Organisations as Drivers for Smart Specialisation

Universities and research organisations have an active role in making regional profiles a lot smarter. As lead institutions, they should join forces with the leading innovative firms and help to drive those smart specialisations where in the next years regional investments promise the most structural effects for the future.

The Austrian government encourages universities to be lead institutions of their regions (see pp 31).
